ADFIL CONSTRUCTION FIBRES CELEBRATE SUCCESSFUL WTC PREMIERE
Zele (Belgium)/ Hull (United Kingdom), 13 May 2016 – Low & Bonar, a leading producer and supplier of, amongst others, high performance construction fibres and geosynthetics, said that their first time participation at the World Tunnelling Congress (WTC) was a significant milestone for their business. Held in San Francisco at the end of April, the conference attracted more than 2,300 underground professionals from more than 50 countries.
Not only was the event the first time that Low & Bonar’s Adfil Construction Fibre Business had exhibited at WTC, but it was also the first time that Durus S500, an innovative fibre for concrete reinforcement in tunnelling, was presented to a broader audience. In addition, the company showcased a range of geotextiles and geosynthetics developed for the underground construction industry and marketed under the brand name Enka Solutions.
“All three product groups have generated a good amount of interest”, explained Garry Martin, Director Major Projects. “But it came as no surprise that most talks centered around our new macro synthetic fibre. Especially the new extrusion technology applied in its manufacture, as well as a new fibre shape allow this product to outperform alternative solutions.” The specific properties of Durus S500 make it particularly suitable for use in sprayed concrete as well as segmental linings. Increased speed of construction, logistic benefits and enhanced safety on site are amongst the advantages over steel mesh reinforcement in underground applications.
According to the company, designers and contractors were the two biggest groups of attendees at the congress. “We were very pleased with the quality of interaction with visitors to our stand”, Martin said. “This was a very technical and professional audience looking for solutions supported with relevant data and industry specific expertise. With some of our fibres having been used in underground infrastructure for about 20 years and geosynthetics even twice as long, San Francisco was definitely the place to be for us last month.”
The next edition of the World Tunnelling Congress will be held in Bergen (Norway) from 9 thru 15 June 2017. According to Martin, Adfil Construction Fibres are set to exhibit again as tunnelling will remain one of the company’s key strategic growth segments and an area on which the company’s extensive R&D efforts are being channeled.
